lazing on a sunny afternoon

Hello ladies and gents! Apologies for not posting yesterday; I was busy enjoying the sunshine! The British countryside is so beautiful under the haze of the bright sun. I'm home alone at Luke's today so I've been trying to make my own fun. This has involved sunbathing with a good book, watching ants carry a dead fly home and marvelling at the grunts of the ladies at Wimbledon. It might not shout fun to all, but, it kept me pretty happy. My birthday presents arrived yesterday! It's silly but I still act like a 5 year old when it comes to my birthday - as much as I like to pretend I dislike birthdays altogether. I think I've also received some film for my beautiful Diana Mini from the super awesome Zoe. How kind is that lady?! I say I 'think' because my mother phoned and said a little package that 'made a noise when shaken' had arrived. Genius! If anyone's got any tips on using the Diana Mini please feel free to send them my way. I'm thinking of taking it to Corfu for holiday snaps. Is that a good idea?

I'm currently trying to beg my Mother to take me to the Zoo for my birthday. Yes, I'm 5 years old. I absolutely love the Orangutans and you can't beat watching the Baboons shagging/fighting for half an hour can you?! I've also been busy sorting out holiday posts/blogsitters for Little V when I head off to Corfu. It's all looking pretty exciting so far! My mind is already in holiday mode. I'm super excited for it right now! All these lovely sun graced thoughts have definitely cheered me up lately. If you read my Twitter, you'll know that I had a particularly bad day the other day. Family problems persisted and to top it all off the cat I usually catsit had to be put down. She was sunbathing on top of a van roof and before the driver realised she had broken bones. At 23 years old, she had a long happy life but I just can't help but cry about the way she had to go. She must've been so frightened. Anyway, I don't want to turn this into a melancholy post. I'm going to go and eat a Muiller Corner. Oh god, they're awfully good aren't they?! I'll see you tomorrow for another post!

.....I can't leave this post without including a photograph of the little man keeping me company today!

H is for Happy #42: Things That Make Me Happy

Hello ladies and gents. Welcome to H is for Happy - the series that documents all the little things in life that put a smile on my face. It's been one of those nothing-to-report days today I'm afraid so this post should be thrilling! The weather has been bland as has the entertainment. Thankfully, it's a fortnight today til I'm off to Corfu. Oh god, I cannot wait. I need Sex on the Beach and I need it now! I meant the cocktail you dirty dogs! I turn 19 this week and I couldn't be less bothered about it. I have no idea how to 'celebrate'. Ideas in a comment would be welcome! I'm off for a Game of Thrones marathon at Luke's later but until then I'm stuck to the sofa watching episode after episode of Come Dine With Me. It's a glamorous life... I hope you like this week's picks. What's making you happy this week? I'll see you on Wednesday!

Snap Happy #24

Nomming some smoked salmon at lunchtime. I can never resist food before photographing it! | A field full of big daisies that I came across on my travels the other day | MUSHROOM MUSHROOM! | Tried to compile a summer playlist with my itunes. As you can see, it's full of shit so it took aaaages | Catching some rays bare faced. I was hella bored and slightly cold - hello shoulder! | Being a goofball with my best friend. My feet are quite big - sorry! | Ebony and my masculine alter ego | Ebony's gorgeous new 20p car boot duck brooch | 'Look somewhere' | Soggy vinegar chips | She loves her potato | Straining... | Dolly nomming a chip | White girl legs | Walking with my stepmum and younger sister | Sunny ferns | Such a South West cliché...Did a bit of tractor watching

Little V has had a makeover! I just fancied a little change so I swapped a few things round. I'm not 100% about it but, for the moment, it's a keeper. I've had the best day embracing the sun with a beaut walk in the countryside. I've got a blister the size of my face on my little toe to show for it though :/ I met up with my gorgeous best friend, Ebony, yesterday for a day of bargain hunting and frivolity. We picked up some super cool pieces at the boot sale and had an argument with a pushy old man who kept trying to show us his 'magic tracks' every time we walked past. Likely story! What is it with pushy car boot sellers?! I don't want to buy your 100 year old tack! I purchased a cute little summer dress and a book before heading home with sore feet and a smile on my face. We stayed up drinking hazelnut hot chocolate accompanied by a few episodes of Summer Heights High. I think that's pretty much a little slice of perfection! This coming week~welcomes~
my 19th birthday. I have no enthusiasm for it whatsoever right now because some of my friends have let me down. At the moment, my celebrations consist of staying home and getting very very drunk alone. Oh, the glamour! I'm going to spend the rest of this beautiful summer's evening reading blogs and catching up with Glasto coverage. I can't wait to get my sass on for Sasha Fierce.

This list was extremely therapeutic to write; it's nice to think of all the things around you and how they're affecting your life/inspiring your way of thinking. Summer itself is a season that heavily inspires me. I'm a July baby so my loyalties lie with the sun and the frivolity that it brings. I'm so ready for my holiday right now. As terrible as it sounds, I can't wait to run away from reality for a week of relaxation in my polka dot shorts. If I close my eyes real good I can smell the Stifado cooking and feel the sunshine on my skin. I'm also pretty excited for my birthday right now. I've made no plans whatsoever so far so I should probably sort that! I have, however, made quite a lovely wishlist. Luke is the only person buying me presents this year so he fucking better get me some nice ones. I'm kidding....but seriously. What sort of things are inspiring you at the moment?

Live Fast Die Fun #3: Bee Photographs The Animal Kingdom

'Live Fast Die Fun' is a weekly feature that sees me tackling a new skill/re-visiting old ones in order to broaden my horizons and experience lots of different things. This feature could take me anywhere, from culinary attempts to trying my hands at languages to just about anything! This week sees me at one with nature and the wildlife around me! I'll be rating my experience at the end of the post and discussing the ins and outs of this skill! If you've got any ideas for future posts then please feel free to comment. Let me know what you think!

I am in no way claiming to be a photographer of any sort. In fact, I'm far from it. However, I've always been drawn to finishing off film with a few snaps of the local wildlife/my four legged furry feline friends. Hello 10 samey shots of the cat at the end of the disposable camera! The summer welcomes a whole new load of colourful characters coming out to play so I thought I'd take on the role of wildlife paparazzi and photograph them whilst they tried, and albeit failed, to go about their day in peace. I'm extremely lucky to live somewhere that is surrounded by vast amounts of countryside so I headed off with camera, keen eye and boyfriend in tow in search of some photogenic critters. Naturally, David Attenborough was narrating the journey in the depths of my mind. All the photographs you see in this post are mine and, therefore, I'd appreciate it if you notified me if you'd like to use them anywhere.

(collection of some old wildlife photos I've taken!)

Like I said already, I'm no expert. I don't think that in order to learn a new skill you have to go in there knee deep in knowledge and equipped with expensive resources. With this in mind, my lowly point and shoot seemed to be all I needed, well, and some wildlife of course. There's that age old saying to 'never work with animals' and I can kind of understand why. The more awkward of the kingdom, hello Mr Butterfly, will make you work for your photograph. They watch you gleefully as you hop around the meadow in pursuit of them. Therefore, I'd remind any budding amateur wildlife photogs to attempt it with a shit load of patience. Whilst some wildlife like the limelight whilst you invade their dinner time, others don't. With this sentiment firmly in mind,  my second tip is to respect your subject. No one wants to come away with battle scars! If your subject starts grunting/mooing *etc* loudly...that's your time to run! You should also abuse that macro setting.

(I'm pretty taken by the Spotted Burnet Moths that I found)

It seems the insect world were the only ones inquisitive enough to brave the silly June weather and pose for some photographs. This was slightly disappointing because the spot we ventured to is renowned for its sightings of owls, otters, voles and birds. I guess that's the exciting thing about wildlife/nature photography; you never know what you'll stumble upon on a particular day! Since I first came across the Six Spot Burnet Moth the other week *pictured above* I've become pretty taken by them. I was gutted when my camera deleted all the photographs I had of them so I deliberately visited the flowers they frequent in order to capture a few new shots of them. They're extremely obedient when it comes to posing but I suppose that's only because I caught them during feeding time! I love their little curled tongues and gorgeous polka dots. They've definitely got some catwalk credentials! Luke and I have a habit of seeing things for the first time and believing they're rare creatures. We thought the exact same thing about these little buggers and now we see them everywhere.

(Some scary creature perched on a flower | Big juicy grasshoppers adorned the oversized daisies)

Luke was running around like a dog on heat trying to catch little grasshoppers in his hands; I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd caught a dozen on them hanging on these gorgeous large daisies. I think I might have to start reading up on the correlation between certain plants and animals in order to catch them. Oh god, what am I fast becoming?! I'm not entirely sure what the bug in the top photograph is but it looked like it could kick my ass so I didn't bother it for long! I've definitely fallen head over heels in love with photographing the critters of the animal kingdom so I definitely don't think this is the last you'll see of my wildlife paparazzi attempts. Don't worry though, little Viva won't be turning into some sort of Springwatch supplement! I don't own the anorak for that. I'm definitely going to make a habit of photographing the little things around me for the rest of my days.

(Some sort of duck Mother's Union meeting | Pretty bug - think it might be Harlequin Ladybird larva?!)

There you have it! I'm off to go for an afternoon of shopping with my Mamabear. Have an awesome rest of the week and I'll see you on Friday. By the way, it was Little Viva's first birthday yesterday. She celebrated with a well earned rest! P.S I'm creating the ultimate holiday playlist at the moment and I need your music ideas. Please leave them in a comment ;)

difficulty rating: 50% This depends on the particular animal and their behaviour on the day. Some will sit pretty for you - others will fly off into the distance laughing at your naivety.
laughter level: 70% Animals really do the funniest things sometimes.
encouraged a happy head?
recommended? Always! Just remember to respect the animal's private space. No one likes to have it invaded - especially cattle!

H is for Happy #41: Things That Make Me Happy

Good afternoon ladies and gents! Welcome to another 'H is for Happy' post - the series that showcases all the things in life that put a grin on my face. I'm spending the day wishing for brighter weather so that I can re-shoot a load of photos that I took of some pretty little moths. Yes, that's what my life has become! There's something so much nicer about photographing animals. They're less...posey. They don't have time to organise the gap in their fringe or smile widely for the camera; I think that makes for a fresher photograph. Once my holiday is out of the way (not long to go now folks!) I'm going to start saving for better cameras and for some film for my Mini Diana. I've now documented 200 things that make me happy! When I started this feature, I had no idea how long I would do it for. However, I've realised that there's really no need to put a use by date on it. It'll run its course when it wants to, but, whilst there's still multiple things that make me happy, I'll be posting these weekly! I have no idea what the rest of the week holds in store for me so I think it's going to be a case of waking up and deciding what to occupy my mind with! I quite like that about my lifestyle. I have the ability to make each day different. I'll see you soon! P.S Someone turns one year old tomorrow ;)

snap happy #23: my week in photos

Tiger, plotting to take over the world as ever | Drank rather a lot of cider this week - my bad! | The new patchwork quilt that adorns our conservatory wall | Beautiful Lyzi! | Kate enjoying her first ever Starbucks | Horrendously crap quality photo but it's of Harriet and Lyzi | Orange and lemon water with a peach and raspberry muffin on the side. The taste of summer! | Bluffin' with ma muffin (stolen from Rosa) | Some of my gorgeous blogger meet ladies - gutted we didn't get a group photo earlier! (stolen from Rosa) | My brother and Luke enjoying a few way too many | Graffiti on the McD's balloon. Rebellion at its finest | Dad...enjoying his Father's day | Sneak peeks of my holiday wardrobe so far | This frog is having a little spa break in the pond

Remember me?! I haven't really posted in the past few days for no particular reason but its been a welcomed break. It's nice to take a little staycation once in a while! Alas, I'm now back and hitting you all with a load of photos of my week. I was lucky enough to meet some beautiful blogging ladies this week! It was actually pretty blogger cliché-less. No one took photos of their food and there wasn't a Peter Pan collar in sight! It was such an awesome day. I had a few 'oh-my-god-i-well-stalk-you-on-the-internet' fangirl moments but once they'd faded I'd felt like I'd known the girls for years. Lyzi and I loved it so much that we'll be running another one in late August. Details will be up ASAP and we'd love it if some new faces came down and said hello!

My week has otherwise been quite quiet! I've become somewhat of a sadsack naturist and I can't seem to stop taking photos of animals/plants. David Attenborough, eat your heart out ;) I'm currently passing out at the smell of a huge hunk of Roast Beef that is waiting to adorn my dinner plate. Oh god, I love Sundays! I hope all the Fathers out there have been enjoying their pointless day. I dragged mine round the local garden centre and bought him a lemonade. Daughter of the year award should be headed right my way, right?! I'm actually nursing a little bit of a hangover today. For some reason, my family and I decided to stay up til 3am dancing to traditional Jewish music whilst sipping down three too many ciders. I'm not entirely sure why it took place...but you've gotta love the effort! I'll be back tomorrow with a little ray of happiness! Until then, keep smiling.

P.S I wrote a guest post on happy minds HERE. Go read it and show Chloe some love!
